Gardner Public Schools enrolls mainly white students in 2022-23 school year

White was the most represented ethnicity among Gardner Public Schools students in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In total, there were 1,458 white students enrolled, accounting for 61.1% of the district's student body.

The number of white students attending schools in the district increased 5% over the previous school year.

Meanwhile, American Indian or Alaska Native students were the least represented ethnic group within the schools in Gardner Public Schools.

Gardner Public Schools roughly covers schools within Worcester County, and has a main office in Gardner.

The total number of students attending the district’s schools grew to 2,387 over the 2022-23 school year.

Students in Massachusetts are predominantly white, according to state data from 2023-24, representing 53% of the state's student body.

Across the state, Hispanic and Latino students saw the highest high school dropout rates.

Under representation is also found among educators in Massachusetts. The Rennie Center reported that only 7.8% of teachers identified as people of color in 2022.
