After months of hard work and creative efforts, Greenfield Community College art students showcased their amazing works of art and performance art talents during the College’s annual Arts Night on April 21, kicking off the school’s annual Art Student Exhibit.

The Arts Night opening featured an exhibit of studio art and musical performances from GCC students, as well as a live preview of the upcoming GCC Theater production of The Elephant Man, coming to Hawks & Reed May 6-8 and 12-14.

The studio art exhibit is currently on display on GCC’s main campus and features many pieces of original artwork from students. It will be on display at the College until May 9 and visitors are welcome to tour the exhibit, though must follow GCC COVID-19 guidelines for campus visitors.

“The arts are a huge source of GCC pride. The displays of student work and performances clearly demonstrate the breadth of immense talent of our students and the instructional quality of our faculty,” GCC interim President Richard Hopper said.

“Arts are particularly important as the pandemic evolves since they provide opportunities for expression at a time when we have been struggling to communicate. Moreover, all forms of art bring us unbridled joy,” he added.

“The Art Department’s tradition to honor and celebrate our student’s hard work began in 1973 in the old Arch Street building, and continues to be a highlight of the department. The exhibit is an opportunity to showcase the art of our hard-working students that demonstrate the power of visual communication, the connection between form and content and importantly, the sense of community and collaboration,” Jennifer Simms, co-chair and professor in GCC’s Art Department, said.

Visitors to GCC can take in the incredible pieces of art that are located on the College’s main campus during the school’s business hours, which are:

  • Mondays-Thursdays, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Fridays and Saturdays, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Sundays, Closed
Any visitors to the GCC campus must follow the GCC COVID-19 guidelines for visitors, including providing proof of vaccination, wearing a mask while on campus, and checking in with the GCC Office of Public Safety upon arrival. More information can be found here.
