Gardner ranked 186th in state for resident earnings in 2017

Gardner ranked 186th among cities in Massachusetts by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Gardner residents was an inflation-adjusted $27,274 per year. Gardner had 8,254 households in 2017, with a population of 20,496.

The city with the highest median resident income in the state was Lexington. Lexington's median income was $68,943 per year after adjusting for inflation – $41,669 more than Gardner. It had 11,755 households in 2017 and a population of 33,339.

Amherst Center had the lowest annual resident income among cities in Massachusetts, with a median income of only $5,042 per year. That was $22,232 less than the median income in Gardner at the time. Amherst Center had 2,979 households in 2017 and a population of 20,084.
